Fwd: TROOP 1441 NEWSLETTER 3-4-2019

To All
BroadCreek Father/Son Camp-in.
The event started off on a damp note, rain and snow predicted.  The drive to the camp is always an adventure as electronic communication seems to go a little haywire as you get close to your destination.  The ride down curvy, roller coaster Peach Orchard Road is always a thrill and especially so with low temperatures and ice. It really gets dark out in the country.
The road was passable and we began to arrive at the Camp Center in ones and small groups.  Being the first to arrive I was greeted with the news that the road to the Hauck Lodge had been washed out in the last few weeks and we had to take a circuitous route over some logging trails to get there.  Mr. Costa arrived just behind me and we decided I would go with the ranger to the lodge while Frank awaited the others.  We set out backtracking our trail out to the main road and the 5 miles back to the village of Dublin.  We turned left and left very quickly and proceeded to drive, turn left, turn right, turn left, go up hill and down until we go to the bottom of a long gravel road where a bridge had been washed out.  We made hard right turn onto a logging road that looked like it had recently been opened up.  It was fairly level but for almost two miles is was nothing but mud, potholes and humps.  We made it through.  The ranger returned, got more of the crew and lead a second caravan.  Some even found their way without the ranger.  All but one car made it, low slung sports cars do not like Fire trails.

We survived the great swamp trek and mystery night ride for a successful BroadCreek Father/son event.  Saturday was wet and slushy but that did not discourage the fire builders and bridge builders as the Scouts successfully completed their challenges.  There was plenty of great food as Mr. Keegan guided the kitchen and scouts through all of the preparations.
We left by ten AM Sunday, our target time, to avoid the afternoon snows which did not live up to their billing. A lot of work was done on Tote and Chip with two successful fuzz sticks completed.
The trail out was a muddy river but all made it out and home safely.

Pack 205 Pinewood Derby was held on Saturday 3/2 and scouts David G, Ezana M.  and Chris G.  assisted in the operation, Chris and his dad also made it to the Campin.
