Fwd: Troop Newsletter

For Your Information.

The Troop has grown quickly and with it have come some new challenges.  Scouting is a volunteer organization, people join because they believe in the philosophy, they like the program or their parents want them to.  We have two hours a week to provide the Scouts with the guidance and framework for them to grow as persons and leaders.  We also have frequent campouts, (Camping is the Classroom of Scouting) where the Scout can practice his skills and apply them.  With the larger number of Scouts in the Troop the space where we hold our troop meetings seems to have shrunk.  A lot of active boys in a confined space can get chaotic and attention to the program sometimes suffers.  We expect the Scouts to behave and follow the Troop rules and guidelines, on the website,(www.Troop1441.com) .  Teachers can always send their misbehaving students to detention, We can't.   In lieu of detention, if the Scouts behavior indicates he really doesn't want to be there,  the parent can expect a call from me to come and get your son and he will lose credit for attendance.  The Scout may return to the following meeting if he is willing to follow the program.  Hopefully this will not be a frequent problem.
Scouts and the Scouting organization are special and a little more is required of the Scouts.

The Troop Meeting is scheduled for Monday evenings from 7 to 9 PM.   The structure of the meeting is as follows
7 PM to 7:20  Patrol Corners.  Patrols will use this time to conduct their own business.
This is very important and all members should be present.  An Assistant                             Scoutmaster is assigned to each patrol as an advisor.
    7:20 PM        Flag Ceremony
7:25 to 7:30   Short Scoutmaster Minute.
    7:30 to 8:40    Program
                                Presentations, rank advancement, games.
8:40 to 9 PM   Closing Circle
                                Award presentations, Announcements, recognitions
9:00 PM            Depart the Building.  The cleaning people need to take over.

If necessary, Scouts may leave early and should clear it with a Leader.
Being late may result in not getting credit for attendance at the meeting.
Part of rank advancement is "Being Active in your Unit"  which for Troop 1441
means attending 75% of the Troop meetings and 50% of the Troop Activities unless pre-        excused.

The time period from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM is reserved for Scoutmaster Conferences, and Merit Badge work and must be scheduled the previous week.

As we experience turnover we need to remind or explain these rules every once in a while.
