To All:

HAPPY NEW YEAR, May you hold your resolutions fast and be successful.

The Holidays have come and gone and a new year is upon us.  It's a great time to review, refresh and make new plans for ourselves.  The coming year will present many challenges to the world and the country.  Our troop will have its own challenges as we graduate and bring in new scouts. "The mission and purpose of the BSA is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law".  We adhere to that statement as we plan and manage our troop program.  Much of our program involves the outdoors as "Camping is the Classroom of Scouting".  Teaching responsibility is one of our primary goals and we stress it with the scouts by expecting attendance and participation at our events and activities.  Another aspect of our program is Personal Planning.  Each Scout is asked to provide a short term plan to include advancement and activity objectives.  A simple form is attached for your scout's use in looking forward to the first half of the year.  Please encourage them to fill it out and turn it in to the Scoutmaster.  It looks like it will be an exciting year so let's dive right into it.

Our first big event will be the FALL COURT OF HONOR, Monday, Jan 13th at the troop meeting.  We will hold Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review the week before for any Scouts looking to advance.  Parents, siblings and friends are invited to come and celebrate the scouts' achievements.  Families, please bring some snacks or goodies to share with the group.

Right on the heels of the COH will be the KLONDIKE DERBY, Jan. 24-26, at Little Bennett Camp Ground.  Scout Patrols should be preparing now for the event.  Please ask your Scouts where they stand in these preparations.  Permission Slip attached.

This takes us to the beginning of February where we celebrate the Birthday of Scouting with a re-dedication to the Twelfth Scout Law, "A Scout is Reverent", by attending a Scout Sunday Service at SJB on either Sat 2/1, 5PM or Sunday 2/2. 9 AM.  Wear full Class A uniform.

Troop 1441 will be conducting a Merit Badge Day for the White Oak District on President's Day, February 17th at the Church of Christ at Manor Wood in Rockville.  We will need volunteers from the adults in the troop to help make this a success. Please let me know if you can make it.  Scouts, be on the alert for the Sign-up sheet coming soon.

We are in the process of making final arrangements for our Annual Father and Son Camp-in.  Please save the dates of Feb 21-23 for the event.   More to come.

For the Adult Leaders, the University of Scouting is Scheduled for Saturday, February 29th.
This is chance for Leaders to expand their Scouting resume with up to six classes of various scouting skills and practices.  Check on the Council web site for the sign up process. Recommend that you attend, and its fun.

The White Oak District will be conducting a Life to Eagle Conference on Sunday March 15th.  This event is open to all leaders, Life Scouts or soon-to-be Life Scouts and Parents.
More to Come.
