Fwd: TROOP 1441 VIRUS BULLETIN #5

Hope everyone is well and keeping up good spirits as we meet the challenges of a new daily life cycle.  Scout neckerchiefs are good for face masks, stay home so you wouldn't have to need them.

ADVANCEMENT AND RECOGNITIONS
Henry C.  successfully passed his BOR and is now a Life Scout.
Thomas P., James H. and Charles C. were elected by the Troop to become members of the Order of the Arrow.
Congratulations to all of you.

ON-LINE E-TROOP MEETING
This coming Monday, April 13th from 7 to 8 PM we will be holding our first E-Troop meeting.  We will be using the Zoom Platform and all you need to have is a computer and use the sign-in information below,  you may also try with your phones.

(Zoom info deleted.... only for members.  Email John Wnek if you need it!)

We will probably spend some time getting everyone signed on, reviewing the rules for the meetings, do an opening ceremony, discuss future plans for on-line sessions and have an organized activity.  It may run a little over.

TEXT MESSAGE NOTIFICATION SYSTEM
The troop is developing a text messaging system to alert members that Troop Bulletins have been e-mailed or special information is being sent out.  If you want to participate please send me the phone number you wish to receive the texts.  I have only received 10  numbers so far.

SUMMER CAMP, CAMP OLMSTED
The camp is still taking registrations with May 15th the new discount cutoff date. Full refunds will be given if the camp is closed due to the Virus.  Discount Fees are Scouts $385, Adults $225.  The Bus fare is $65 this year.
From NCAC

  1. We are working on identifying additional campership money for those families who may need extra assistance with camp this year due to layoffs, furloughs, etc. We will provide details as soon as we have them. Please do continue to apply, as the campership application has been reopened online. It is here: https://www.gotogoshen.org/registration/#camperships
  2. National is in the process of reviewing what the requirements would be for Part C of the BSA med form this year, should we need to adjust. We will be in touch as soon as we hear the details.
  3. Camp notices are posted here: https://www.gotogoshen.org/information/latest-news/.
If you need assistance with requesting camperships, let me know.

May 15th is also the date that signups for merit badges can start.
See attached Olmsted Program Schedule 2020 review and select what merit badges you wish to take and their time slots and get them to me before the 15th of May. Prerequisites are on the gotogoshen.org web site.

Medical evaluations and Physicals are required each year.  They are necessary not only for Summer camp but also for the camping we do the rest of the year.  This year's copy is attached.

First year scouts are enrolled in the TrailsHead program which provides them with a great boost in completing many of the rank advancement requirements for Scout, Tenderfoot, Second and first class.  Program is attached.

SCOUTBOOK
We are transiting to Scoutbook from Troopmaster as our system of record and will be issuing invitations to Parents to log in and join the system.  They will be able to monitor their Scouts and keep current with Troop Activities.  Look for the invitation.

SCHEDULE
Our schedule is being readjusted to fit the current circumstances.  With all of the current activities either cancelled or postponed we will be replacing or substituting other activities.

Yours in Scouting
John J Wnek
